Summary
Effects of acupuncture treatment (including cosmetic acupuncture and plum-blossom needling) for melasma and pigmentation were meta-analyzed. Analysis of 11 studies showed significant melanin index reduction and skin brightness improvement in the acupuncture group. Acupuncture contributes to pigment reduction through promoting local blood circulation and accelerating melanin excretion.
