Q. Can I take respiratory herbs with Western cough/phlegm medication?
Yes, with a 1–2 hour gap. Discuss with your doctor for combination with antibiotics.
📝 Detailed Answer
In most cases you can take them together. However, please do not stop the conventional medication on your own.
This is particularly so for the asthma controller and antibiotics. If you stop the asthma controller, airway inflammation progresses even though things look fine on the surface, and antibiotics must be taken for the set period.
There are medications you must tell us about: inhalers (the type and how often you use them), antibiotics, cough and expectorant medicines, antihistamines, steroids and blood pressure medication. Some blood pressure medications are themselves a cause of chronic cough, so we check them together.
Leaving an interval of an hour or two between doses puts less burden on you. The decision to reduce medication must be discussed with the doctor who prescribed it.
