Summary
Eighteen randomized controlled trials (total 1,426 subjects) evaluating the weight loss effect of Mahuang-containing herbal medicine were meta-analyzed. The Mahuang-containing herbal medicine group showed an average additional weight reduction of 3.7 kg, and basal metabolic rate increased by an average of 8.4%. Heart rate increase (average 4.2 bpm) and mild insomnia (7.3%) were reported, but no serious adverse events occurred.
