Eleven RCTs (924 subjects total) on herbal medicine treatment for pediatric acute otitis media were meta-analyzed. The herbal medicine (Eungyo-san, Hyungaeyongyo-tang, etc.) monotherapy group demonstrated an 84% symptom resolution rate, non-inferior to the antibiotic group (88%). Side effects such as gut microbiota disruption were significantly fewer in the herbal group.
