Most people who come to consult have a throat and airway that dry out easily and a dry cough that lingers. A long-lasting cough, however, often has post-nasal drip, reflux esophagitis, asthma or a blood-pressure medication side effect behind it. If a cough lasts more than three weeks or contains blood, respiratory medicine tests come first.
