Q. I would like to try reducing my asthma inhaler — is that possible with herbal medicine?
There is research covering reduction, but the adjustment is the judgement of the doctor who prescribed it. Please do not reduce it on your own.
📝 Detailed Answer
A randomised controlled trial suggesting that combining herbal medicine may contribute to reducing inhaled steroids in paediatric asthma, and a cohort study reporting that combined Korean medicine treatment contributed to lowering steroid dependence, have been reported.
However, these are results observed in research; whether and how fast to reduce in practice is judged by the prescribing doctor while looking at lung function and symptoms. We do not reduce it on our judgement.
Stopping the controller on your own raises the risk of acute exacerbation. If breathlessness or waking at night increases, please tell us immediately.
