A randomized controlled trial evaluating the effect of modified Chukcheon-hwan in 94 men with nocturia (frequency ≥2/night). After 8 weeks of administration, nocturnal urination frequency decreased from an average of 3.4 to 1.2 times, and the nocturnal polyuria index (NPi) also improved significantly. Sleep quality (PSQI) also improved together.

A narrative literature review comprehensively analyzing research trends in Korean medicine treatment for male urinary disorders (LUTS). Sixty-two studies published from 2013 to 2023 were analyzed, confirming that herbal medicine, acupuncture treatment, and moxibustion treatment are effective for IPSS and QoL improvement. New evidence for pharmacopuncture and electroacupuncture was also accumulating.

Key Conclusion

Evidence for Korean medicine treatment of male urinary disorders is accumulating across various treatment modalities, and standardized protocol development is a future challenge.
