A randomized controlled trial comparing bee venom pharmacopuncture treatment versus gabapentin was conducted in 64 patients with post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN). After 8 weeks of treatment, the bee venom pharmacopuncture group showed significantly decreased NRS pain scores and neuropathic pain questionnaire (DN4) scores. Sleep quality improvement was also superior in the bee venom pharmacopuncture group.

Key Conclusion

Bee venom pharmacopuncture is an effective treatment for pain reduction and sleep quality improvement in post-herpetic neuralgia, and can be utilized as complementary or alternative therapy to existing medications.

The 6-month recurrence rate in the acupuncture combination group was 8.7%, significantly lower than 22.4% in untreated controls. Residual dizziness also resolved more rapidly in the acupuncture group.

Key Conclusion

Adjunctive acupuncture after canalith repositioning maneuvers significantly reduces BPPV recurrence rates and promotes resolution of residual dizziness.
